The pergola is a much-loved decorative item that can add a lot of value to your house's yard or rooftop. The sleek structure - either made up of wooden or metal - enhances the external look of your house.
However, some people are not thrilled to have a simple pergola in their house and they want to decorate it with flowers to add more to its look. But, adding plants mean increasing maintenance work. Not only can you use it leaves for cooking, but you can also be safe from pesky mosquitoes especially during summer as rosemary is a natural mosquito repellent as well.

2. Bougainvillea

The fast-growing plant, bougainvillea is a great climbing plant which gives a beautiful look to whatever place it is growing on. The vibrant flowers of the plant are popular among people. Your guests and family members will love your pergola if you adorn it with this plant. You can plant it in large pots and train it to grow up over the roofing as well. Since the plant doesn't require high maintenance, many people love to grow it in their backyard.

3. Spider Plants

Also known as airplane plants, spider plants or Chlorophytum comosum are small plants that are used in hanging baskets or small pots. Not only are they inexpensive, but they also require minimum attention. They grow small satellite plants that you can either cut or let it grow into more spider plants. They look like a bouquet of leaves tied together and are a treat for the eyes.

4. Lavender

Lavender is a drought-resistant plant which means that it will not die if you forget to water it. There is literally no excuse for not planting this incredibly easy plant that requires no work from you.
